Ajax

Ajax, shorthand for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, is a web development technique for creating interactive web applications. The intent is to make web pages feel more responsive by exchanging small amounts of data with the server behind the scenes, so that the entire web page does not have to be reloaded each time the user requests a change. This is meant to increase the web page’s interactivity, speed, and usability.

Ajax is not a technology in itself, but a term that refers to the use of a group of technologies.

One important feature of Ajax applications is asynchronous communication of the browser with the server: information is exchanged and the page’s presentation is updated without a need for reloading the whole page. Using this approach, it is easy to have the data a user enters into a form sent to the server “behind the scenes”; the server can then reply with some JavaScript code that updates the presentation of the page.

A framework eases the work of the Ajax programmer at two levels: on the client side, it offers JavaScript functions to send requests to the server. On the server side, it processes the requests, searches for the data, and transmits them to the browser.

LAMP Infrastructure Deployment

JBoss (pronounced Jay Boss) is an open source Java EE-based application server implemented in Java. OpenLaszlo solutions

OpenLaszlo is an open source platform for the development and delivery of web applications with a usable human interface sometimes called rich Internet applications) on the World Wide Web. It is released under the Open Source Initiative-certified Common Public License.

The OpenLaszlo platform consists of the LZX programming language and the OpenLaszlo Server:

LZX is an XML and JavaScript description language similar in spirit to XUL, MXML, and XAML. LZX enables a declarative, text-based development process that supports rapid prototyping and software development best practices. It is designed to be familiar to traditional web application developers who are familiar with HTML and Javascript.

The OpenLaszlo server is a Java servlet that compiles LZX applications into executable binaries for targeted run-time environments. OpenLaszlo currently targets the Flash Player, versions SWF6, SWF7 and SWF8. The version code-named “Legals”, will also target SWF9 and traditional DHTML.

Ruby on Rails

Ruby on Rails is a web application framework released in 2004 that aims to increase the speed and ease of web development. Often shortened to Rails, or RoR, it is an open source project written in the Ruby language. SIP, an application layer control protocol to create, modify or terminate sessions with one or more participants. It is used to create, modify or terminate sessions such as Internet telephone calls, multimedia transfer, or call conferences. Source(N) uses SIP on its voice service solutions.

SIMPLE - the standards evolved out of SIP; carries presence information, conveying a person’s willingness and ability to engage in communications. Presence information is most recognizable today as buddy status in IM clients such as Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Skype, or the open standard Jabber.

XPath

XPath select elements in the source XML document. The paths are very similar to paths on a file system. Data in XML is structures in a Tree-like format representing Parent-Child relationship.
The XML Path Language (XPath) defines structures for retrieving a small part of data from XML documents. XPath’s primary use is in XSL Transformations (XSLT).

Transforming one XML tree in another XML tree is the task performed by XSLT. XSLT performs this task with the help pf XSLT processor that accepts an XML tree as input and produces a new output XML tree. The XSLT language contains operators for selecting nodes from the input tree, rearranging the nodes, and producing the output node.

XQuery

XQuery is a query language that is designed to query collections of XML data. It is a powerful and convenient language designed for processing XML data. XQuery is used as it simplifies data access and data transformation. XQuery can manipulate data from various sources and is convenient to use with both relational and non-relational data base.

Apart from data transformation, XQuery can be used to integrate data form numerous data sources. XQuery can be used to extract information from a database for use in web applications.

XML database

It stores XML documents. There are two types of XML database:

1. XML-enabled Database: XML-Enabled database maps all XML data directly to a relational database or object-oriented database. Such a mapping takes place by converting XML document to Rows and Columns or to Objects.

2. Native XML Database: Native XML Database directly indexes XML documents and stores the entire XML document. XML documents are stored in and retrieved from database as per a defined logical structure for the XML documents.
